Hi,
Have you been through the idrive settings while the usb is plugged in? I did mine a while ago and I am sure I had to do something in the idrive to tell it to install the update. Sorry I can't remember exactly what I did. I may be wrong but its worth a look....
I used the usb by the cup holders.
