While you are correct that Cadenza is the natural competitor to the Avalon, new K900's can still be bought and done so with a massive discount (from 65k down to 52k):

A top equipped Avalon TRD/Limited is 46-49k and US Toyota dealerships usually do not offer any significant discounts. So the real life price delta is really not that big.

You'd be surprised the Avalon is actually discounted anywhere from $4-7k before negotiations right now because of poor sales due to SUV's. Regardless, magazines are always going to use MSRP as discounts vary by many factors.
Either way, the Kia K900 was ranked, but in the Luxury Full-Size Class at #5 along with the A8, 7er, G90 and LS, etc. The Avalon was in the Mainstream Full-Size class, I'd say thats a compliment to the Kia.
