One thing to remember, at that time car rags were in love with that motor ... what's it the VQ? ... and gave everything that had it high marks. I almost wonder if Nissan's PR dept wasn't also throwing a lot of advertising money around as part of the Nissan "resurrection" to sway some favor.
The only car rag/show I've ever seen that really will call a POS a POS so far is Top Gear. All our shows, if it's new they've got something positive to say about it. Until it gets a few years old and the advertising money isn't around, then all of a sudden the real review comes out.
