Your rear tires were not slipping because traction control was working. The computer is pulling power because your pushing the throttle too soon/too hard out of a corner. Just the fact that you said you spun out when you went DSC off proves this. You're not supposed to be holding WOT throughout an entire turn, but I assume you're only doing this for certain turns.

Switching to skinnier fronts isn't going to give the rear more grip, I would recommend just keeping DSC off all the time and not using the crutch of traction control to help you. It'll eventually get to a point where traction control will be slowing you down.
