I saw a segment on BMW's paint application procedures, they use a dry clearcoat process which they claim is unique to them - easier on the environment and less waste, I don't know if it has any advantages in terms of the paint's properties.

I'm sure I've seen both colors in person and the midnight blue looked darker and monaco blue much more blue in sunlight. But I could've mixed them up.
In any case both colors are gorgeous. BMW "owns" blue.
