For me, CarPlay is useless, as you can't use data from it in Headup display, which leaves BMW navigation system superior.
And I can't see any other feature of CarPlay, then using Waze/Google Maps, worth it. Maybe if you are used to Siri, then yes, but besides that, you can connect your phone via standard bluetooth connection and do calls without any problems. You can connect Spotify and other music apps also without CarPlay...

Otherwise, here is what I found useful and coded it myself:
Default driving mode: Adaptive
Auto Start/Stop: remember last setting
Active Sound Design: disable
Video in motion: enable
Decreased heating power for the seats at level 1
