Just completed a rear brake pad and sensor change. I used Bimmerlink or Bimmercode to wind back the rear pistons, but I got an error message on the app, so I'm not sure it worked. All I did was disengage the parking brake. I started with the rear left caliper and pulled off the electric motor to wind back the piston, but I found that I didn't need to do that at all. The piston was easily pushed back with a C-clamp. So I don't know if the app actually wound the pistons back, or there was enough room to switch out pads by just releasing the parking brake. The right rear caliper I just swapped the pads without taking off the electronic motor; I just used the c-clamp to push the piston back.
