The question of who invented this trick doesn't matter to anyone at this point and isn't known by other than a few loyal BMW fans and customers. What matters is for BMW to maintain a clearly distinguishable light signature amongst all other brands, which BMW deserves all the more so since it created the gimmick. A signature that would be recognizable across the board, to the BMW customer, to the random buyer comparing market offerings, to the fascinated kid watching cars in traffic. Up until now the angular semi-loop quad corona rings couldn't be mixed up with anything else on the market. Not anymore, if these spyshots are anything reliable to go by. That would be an unnecessary loss of identity and that's all that matters.
