Delivery is Luck of The Draw

Delivery is often the luck of the draw unless you get one built in Pretoria South Africa like my first 335i BMW. It takes a month to get to the USA on the ship from Durban SA. My M550i was just unlucky with 9 days travel time to Bremerhaven which really should be 2 days. My previous car, a 550i built in Dingolfing, got to Bremerhaven in 2-3 days and on a ship in less than a week after arrival at the port with delivery in 2 months. It had a 2 week delay at the VPC. This M550i was ordered just after the price list was sent to dealers with the start of production scheduled for end of March or April depending on who you were talking to. The good news is that my dealer got allocation for the car less than 2 weeks after I put in the order.

Glad you got yours quickly. You really can't tell much from calling BMW for a status check. I found out that my car was on a ship by tracking the VIN number on the Wallenius Wilhelmsen WEB site which showed up late on 5/2. BMW still had it at Bremerhaven but by then it was on its way across the Atlantic.

Hope you're enjoying your new ride. I'm still getting used to the differences between the 2014 550i and the M550i. The ride is so much more compliant and the handling so much better with 4-wheel steering. I don't miss the fog lights or the headlight washers at all. The LED headlights are so much better than Xenon headlights with fog lamps. The car steering itself on adaptive cruise control takes some getting used to. I do like the feature where it steers the car back into the lane when getting too close to the highway lane lines.
