Are they really "M" options? Or "M-Sport" options? For example, I would expect the brakes on the M5 to be even beefier than on the M550i. I think all of the options you mentioned are just M-Sport options.

But, otherwise, I think you said what I was thinking (and should have said). The ///M cars are just the top end of the regular 2/3/4/5-series cars with the M-Sport package as a default option. There's no real M in them.
