I had V1 Gen 1 for many years (did 2-3 updates). I recently sold it and purchased Uniden R7. After 2 weeks I was not a big fan - very (cheap) plastic look + pretty noisy. Returned the R7 and purchased Gen 2. Unfortunately FedEx took an extra 3 days to deliver it so I was unable to test it during my 300 mile weekend trip.
Based the the RD forum the Gen 2 is a big improvement over Gen 1. I received -2006 serial so hopefully they fixed all the early issues with power and screen.
