I had a new Optima as a rental car several months ago. It was pretty decent overall. Generally speaking, there are few "bad" cars nowadays. All these midsize sedans are fairly similar; they drive the same, have similar interior quality, space, tech features, etc.
Hyundai/Kia's definitely got some transmission issues though. The Optima was a little slow to downshift and the Santa Fe rental I had a month ago was even worse in that regard. It's very scary when attempting to change lanes quickly and not having the power available.
