The S62 was a gem, and the manual transmission as the only transmission option forced the driver that they need to know how to drive a car.

If anything we need more cars like the E39 M5 again, not everyone wants a 1/4 mile mashing sports sedan packed with tech. Design a true Sports Sedan again with modern lines and performance technology that focuses on the fundamental driving experience, like making the chassis as light as possible and great steering feel. All with an engine exhaust note that can be felt and heard without the need for artificial sound enhancement. There is still a market for such a car I believe. If only there was a car company willing to go back to that fundamental formula for a mid-sized Sports Sedan.
I don't know, if there is such market the car companies would build it. But no car nowadays in this segment (M5, RS7, and etc) is like that which tells you all the marketing data and stats pointed the other direction.

Does such group exist? Yes, but it is clearly in the minority and the car companies don't want to bother with it.
