Is it something the dealer needs to do? I'm quite good with tech and learning things rather quickly, but all of these different things seem scattered from one another and all over the place.

Download the BIN file and copy it over to a USB stick. Go to the software update section in "My Vehicle" and then tap USB and insert it. It should start updating right away.
I believe BMW has to perform the iDrive system update. I'm on version NBTevo_P18362I and I believe there is an "Q" update available.
