I have a genuine question here.

Let's say there are people out there who can afford true M cars, but don't want to get the true M cars due to the stiff suspension and "always on sporty" drive. They are happy to dish out for a dynamic car that will have a luxurious/comfortable ride by default, but will have the on demand M sportiness for the random weekends they want to have fun.

Is the "M performance" brand/section not good for them?
M sport package is fine. Fun. Whatever. But BMW shouldn't put an M on the trunk in front of anything other than a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6. You know there's a whole thread w Civics and shit w M badges. This badge looks like one of those. Granted, I'd love to have this 550. I'm sure it's sick. But an M on the back should be preserved for the king at the top of the model range, and here that belongs to the M5. Put M550 on the floor mats.
I don't agree with this. The M550 deserves the M badge if it delivers 0-60 in under 4 seconds. That is M Performance. And with the torque vectoring X-Drive system from the X5M it will also handle well.
