Thanks, I should have mentioned that I have done this many times. Including after I upgraded to iOS 12.4 and when I was talking to the BMW Genius.
Very frustrating after spending $82K for the car.

Touché. FWIW, my iPhone 8 has been rock steady with iDrive/BT setup (I don't and won't use CarPlay) pre- and post- 12.4. It is rare in life for me to be on this side of an issue — the norm is that I tend to be the one that attracts way more bugs than the average human.
