Calipers are not the same. The MZ4/M3 Competition Package brake calipers has larger front piston diameter than the regular E46 M3 brakes. However, the BACKING PLATES are the same.

The "prongs" on the back of the inboard brake pad on the MZ4/M3 Comp. Pack uses the same setup as X5 4.4 pads (but X5 4.4 pads are different backing). If you buy pads designed for the M3, you can bend the prongs out slightly to accommodate the MZ4. Otherwise it may make a squealing noise or knock when the pistons release.
