For OTA you define the country this applies to, in my case Uk/Ireland.
The manual update sends you to a download where you select windows or mac and you get a cusomised copy of the map for you. no need to enter in product codes.
It will copy it to a USB drive for you if you wish and archive off any contents already on there.
