Cozy I did that on my driveway, put it into sport plus and unplugged it.
You have to unplug it when the valve is actually open. You can clearly see it on the left tailpipe, this image shows it:

I'd be very surprised if it does anything other than make a bit more noise. Basically makes it sound more purposeful in comfort mode and ensures at low RPMs in sport mode that it continues. BTW, the exhaust/engine does something else in sports mode too - it's noticeably more loud and 'burbly', it's not just the exhaust valve at the back that causes the differences between comfort and sport.
