No one has any solid word on this...
BMW has noted that Android Auto (AA) is coming in July with AA HUD support and that existing iDrive 7 cars will see an update. It is rumored that HUD support for CarPlay will come alongside it, but BMW focused on AA in the announcement since AA would be new to the platform. But that could also mean it will come later than July.
Then there is the extra wrinkle of is iDrive 7 G30 cars included in that statement or if they will be marooned on their "iDrive 7 Lite" island and skipped. There has been mention that there will be an update for the G30 bringing it up to full iDrive 7 support with that AA update. I expect this will happen, but nothing is certain until it is certain as they say.
All of this was before the SARS-Cov-2 pandemic we're in now so who knows where the timelines for anything sit anymore.
