Other people have different priorities than both of you, and I'm one of them.
I love cars, and like experiencing a vast range of things, from Z06's, RS3's, E63s, 911s, Mclarens, etc etc. The one thing I don't like is getting to drive it for a year or so then getting my wallet blown out by crippling depreciation. It's all fun and games when you realize 20-30 or even more thousand dollars of depreciation loss when you trade in your toy on another toy because the value is that bad.
Some depreciation is unavoidable, but if you have the choice and are shopping for experiences it's something that you have to consider. Are you comfortable throwing away that money getting brand x when brand y is mostly the same? That's the cost of that experience, and others don't value it as much as you did which is why x depreciated more. It also means you're in a worse position when it comes time to sell/swap because that entire market will be softer. Case in point - Look at Plaid's right now.
