You're right about FTM measuring rotational speed rather than inflation pressure.
IF BMW has started fitting TPMS to cars with RFT, then it's just another great reason not to get RFT.
You can easily check because FTM will have rubber valve stems while TPMS uses metal stems. Also, if your iDrive says "FTM" then that's what you got.
Others have posted that TPMS is quite sensitive to temperature changes. Our colder climate could affect the TPMS system.
