This week I was pulled into a BMW dealer by the 0% finance offer. Another pull factor was that some dealers are advertising used F25 with the same equipment, age and miliage as mine for £29-30k. To my shock horror three BMW dealers Is poke to value mine at £20,300~. Even webuyanycar and similar businesses were offering a grand more.
Basically they are aiming for a 40-50% gross margin. Yes dealers need margin for the odd alloy refurb and scuff repair but I didn't expect such a big discrepancy. However, I'm a aware that margins are new cars is low and thus screwing people in trade-in is where there's money to be made.
This is the first car I've ever bought on finance and this is a big lesson about low trade-in values and the importance of thinking long and hard about the car you want to buy.
Lastly, all options except leather and automatic gearbox account for nothing.
