In North America for example you have the 3er Touring being outsold by the X3. A relatively new model against an almost 7 year old SAV.

The upcoming X3 will feature a similar level of finesse as demonstrated by the 5er and 7er models. And will be up-to-date with the latest technology as well as some new features and advancements. Following that in 2018 will be an all new X5 model that will have an even greater sales advantage.
I guess that the fact of the X3 being 15% cheaper must have nothing to do with this.... So a car that came for MY2011 is so much older that a car that came for MY2014 but based on a MY2012 redesign. Lack of 6cyl engine, lack of manual transmission, no publicity and no rebate. All factors that must have help the F31 to sell so good
