Placing the screen high on the dash is a safety thing. It means you glance over to the screen rather than down. I get that. BMW and Audi have accomplished the "safer" placement with the free-standing, tacked on look. MB's S- and E-classes place their screens up high as well, but they're integrated in a long, flat, 70s-esque binnacle. And that look gets just as scathing reviews on the MB boards. I'm not sure there's a good way to do it.

Interestingly enough, it seems that Porsche - which usually has a no compromise ethos - went for a low, integrated screen in the new Panny. It looks absolutely beautiful!
I dunno, i love the screen. I didnt care for it though until i had a 4er loaner, but then i realized how much roomier it made the cabin feel. We liked it enough that when my wife wanted to trade her e91 for an SUV, she chose the X1 over the X3, and it makes the F10 feel outdated to me. Ive been keeping the e60 and eagerly awaiting the M550i mainly for the refreshed interior.

To each their own I guess!
