By skipping gears shouldn't that keep rpm's low? It's similar to short shifting; you're shifting into a higher gear earlier than normal. Just takes less shifts to do it. I remember that a decade ago, GM's had that shift block on their V8 manual cars. You had to go from 1 to 4 under anything less than heavy throttle. Supposedly it was to increase fuel economy.
