Tires undergo huge changes in temperature and pressures from season to season, day to night, driving, etc. I've watched a tire inflated to 36psi shoot to 65psi while driving to vegas.
Just because you didn't drive on it for extended periods of time while severely under inflated doesn't mean somebody else didn't.
