I put "lower order" in quotes, as that is how they are seen on this forum, relatively speaking. What's funny is that for all this obsession with power, the ones driving at 170-200 km/h steadily, reliably day in day out are Europeans buying 320ds which are doing under 3,000 rpm at those speeds.

Good point about diesel economy at high highway speeds. Regardless of the car, petrol economy seems to fall off sharply above 160-170 km/h whereas diesels in my limited experience are less affected. Diesels are not my cup of tea at all, but there's no denying their effectiveness at speed. Good thing too, because 50% of global 3 series production is the 320d. They simply can't get that wrong!
