The wording is a bit confusing, that is for sure.

What BMW means is that CPO coverage ends at 5 years unlimited miles. HOWEVER, if the car hits 50,000 miles after 3 years, it's no longer covered under the new car warranty, but IS covered by the CPO warranty.

So a high mileage new-ish car could technically be under new car warranty for 2 years and CPO coverage for 3 years. What BMW means is that CPO coverage kicks in after the new car warranty expires, but no matter what you're covered by CPO at least for 5 years.

It's very confusing but the fact that BMW wrote 5 YEARS without an "up to" indicate that you are indeed covered by CPO for 5 years.

I would personally never trust something a car salesman said. Not because I think they're lying, but because they're salesmen. Not necessarily intelligent people (not saying they can't be smart) and not necessarily completely knowledgeable about the cars they sell.
