Yes iDrive 7 has issues. No doubt they'll fix them. Clearly Linux development has been challenging for BMW software engineers. Things were so much easier when they lived in a BSD world.
That may be it but using your paying customers as beta testers is certainly discouraging. These are very expensive vehicles to begin with!
If you remember back in 2017 when the G30 was first released, iDrive 6 had its fair share of problems. Probably not as bad as iDrive 7, but there's a level of sophistication difference.

Nevertheless, doesn't seem BMW is overly worried about using owners as beta testers. I'm quite sure they'd rather things just work properly without all the frantic emergency software development to fix show stoppers, such as the Live Cockpit Pro going black in early G05.
I have a 2017, February 2017 build and zero issues with ID6.
Mine is a May 2017 and I wasn't as lucky. After 3 iStep upgrades (last one late 2018) all was fixed.
