Well, that's what I said last week. I've since discovered that the ECU cannot be coded while running. You need to put it in "diagnostic mode" which is three pushes of the start/stop without your foot on the brake, to turn on the ignition but not the engine.
Right now there's only one option and it codes quickly, so no worries about running out of battery.
