My car regularly loses sight of the lines and the yellow steering wheel light appears. Then it gains them again. All completely not understandable to me using my eyes to see the lines.
So I think until the technology is significantly improved, it is incredibly dangerous not only to the folks in the car but to people outside the car. If you are driving, and alone, then you make the decision and take the risk; but pedestrians and drivers in other cars did not make that choice and you are imposing that risk onto them.
