Max lost 6 places at the start because he stood on the throttle and sat there with his wheel spinning while drivers with better throttle control drove past him...his fault no one elses.
Also Verstappen drove for 5+ laps after his bad wing setting change and before his super spin...plenty of time for a decent driver to asses the level of front end grip that he had and how the balance of the car had changed.
But he followed too close to Perez, went onto the wet kerb and ran out of talent.
Taking out the time lost to various spins and the extra pit stop would have seen him much better than 6th.
