i got a courtesy car X3 3.0i a while back while i still had a e46 330i and it was in the shop.
i must say i was extremely surprised at how well it handled. and it def wasnt as slow as I was expecting it to be. My parents have a X5 4.4i and while the X3 is def a lot slower, I found that it handled a lot better than the X5, it was more similar in handling to my 330i than to the X5.
so all in all, its not too slow and handles amazingly for a SUV, and since theres a 3.0si out now, im sure its faster too.
however, I still can't get over its looks. personally, imho, I think it looks like someone took a sledgehammer and a ugly stick to a X5.
so personally, I would buy a relatively stock X5 3.0i, which should only be slightly more than the top of the line X3.
