It's been 35 years...

...since this number last started with a 1. When I started cycling 7 years ago, it very nearly started with a 3. Still shooting for 180, which was my high school weight.

That is badass. Fitness and health are critical!! Keep up the good work.

June 1, 2023 I was 62, 5,9" and weighed 250. Pre-diabetic and on blood pressure meds. I was miserable. That day I changed my life. I joined a group fitness HIIT studio. We rowed, lifted and treadmilled. In a year I was down to 180, with 20% BF and muscle mass way up. Of course, I changed by diet to healthy, focusing on macros.

In the summer of 24 I started training for a Spartan at 63 years of age. A coach took me under her wing and we would run a 5k every Sunday morning, then go straight into a one hour workout. In October I ran my first ever Spartan Sprint (5k), and it was not hard. She was training for a triathlon, so we added cycling to our weekly adventures.

This year I ran a half marathon and a 6K Spartan Super. I have a triathlon scheduled for October and a Hyrox race scheduled for November.

I strength train 4 days per week, take at least 2 group HIIT/MetCon classes, cycle and run.

I say all this to show that anyone can do this. Trust me, if I did you can!

That's a huge change for you, I see. Kudos on that. You look much fitter.

Running is out of the question for me due to prior knee injuries. But cycling doesn't seem to bother my knees.

I started resistance training about 18 months ago to build up some muscle mass. I was following all the advice I got from the PT folks who worked with us for the first 3 months as well as everything I'd read online about starting resistance training in your 60's. Yet somehow I still managed to screw up my right shoulder. I haven't been able to train since January and I'm in the middle of physical therapy now, hoping to get this thing fixed so I can get back to training. Luckily, I can still cycle, so the weight loss continues.

Congrats M_Six.

In March of 2023 I weighed 287.
I am currently at 190.

And while I'm exercising a bit more, I attribute most of the weight loss to eating healthier and smarter... and not consuming 3500+ calories a day.
A tight 46 waist down to a comfortable 36... I can see my toes now... and other extremeties.

I jacked up my left shoulder in early 24. I went to a Physical Therapist, she did dry needling and specific exercises, but kept me in the gym working out. I was pain free in three weeks, and then we went to work building the shoulder back.

I am a HUGE fan of the dry needling

Stay after it, man. It is worth it

Same here. 290+ in 2017. 198 now and still dropping some. I would have a big salad and an even bigger sammich for lunch and eat dinner until I was stuffed. Then an evening snack later. Those days are over. Now it's a low cal salad for lunch, a reasonable dinner, and a couple of NA beers at night. Averaging around 2300-2500 calories a day, which leaves me with a daily deficit of around 500 calories. So a slow, but steady loss. I've also upped my exercising to more strenuous rides and more walking. 44 waist down to a 37 now, which is becoming too loose. I'm thinking I could do a 36 now.

I'm down 40 since January. My goal for 2025 was 30lbs, but I've blown by that mark with half a year to go. I've been riding steadily since 2017, but I cranked it up a notch this year and I really started watching the calories and avoiding ultra-processed stuff. It's working.

I suffered a shoulder impingement a few years ago, from overuse related to single-sided breathing while swimming.

I took a year off of swimming, then adopted bilateral breathing to even out the stress on both shoulders. It has worked for the past 2 years.

Depending on the severity of your shoulder injury, you could start again slowly. Swimming is a form of low intensity resistance training. It is a great complement to cycling.

My pecs and deltoids have better tone, and slight size increase, than I have had in years. Swimming is not the same as lots of bench presses, curls and shoulder presses but it does increase muscle mass and tone. Have a look at photos of any competitive swimmer. In addition to pecs and deltoids, swimming tones abs, obliques, traps and lats surprisingly effectively.

Cycling takes care of quads, hamstrings, glutes and calves!

I’m envious. Got up to 245 during covid and am down to 225-230. I really want to get down to 175 though. Haven’t seen that in 30 years.

Congrats on losing the weight. I once got up to 240lbs and Im 5'8. I never saw my myself as a fat fuck, but I look at those pictures and can't believe how big I was. I've yo-yo'd my entire life, mostly being overweight. I have now maintained being at 177lbs for five years, but I could probably get to 170lbs if I cut 500cal a day off of my intake.

I consume a lot of fiber that helps keep my appetite suppressed, especially during the day at work.

I got to my heaviest last November. I was on a cruise, but still going into the gym most mornings. Stood on the scale and it read 217, I couldn't believe it. I had been hoping to get down to 185-190 to be able to keep playing soccer. I'll be 59 in August.

Sunday at the gym I broke the barrier that was 200 and dropped to 198 as well. Can't remember being under 200 since before my youngest was born, and he's turning 26 in September.

Higher reps, lower weights, naps instead of lunch at work. Share a plate with the wife when we go out to a restaurant except in rare occasions.

Next cruise is scheduled for the Saturday after Turkey-day, still need to drop some belly before then.

I do at least 60 minutes of some sort of workout daily. Most days I'm closer to 90 minutes and frequently hit 120+. Mostly that's cycling. A 30 mile ride is about 90 minutes. Weather permitting, I also walk 1.5-3 miles a day.

When I say I'm burning calories, that's active calories (exercise) and resting energy (just what you normally burn doing whatever you do.) I'm just shy of 800 active calories burned today and I'll probably walk later and burn more. According to my tracker, I've burned 1800 resting energy calories. By the end of the day I'll have burned 3k calories, give or take a few.
