Tire shaking after winter storage?

I stored my summer rims & tires vertically (stacked up) this past winter. I keep them inflated to normal psi. Now that I've switched back to driving on summers, there is a very noticeable vibration at 75+ mph. I've been driving now for hundreds of miles and things haven't got a lot better. I checked that my psi was the exact same all around and it's at the recommended level...

Could it be from improper storage?

Since these are the stock wheels, tires and weights, would BMW rebalance under warranty?

When you say stacked up, do you mean you laid them flat and stacked one on top of the other like you'd stack plates in your kitchen? Or on edge so all sitting like they'd be on the car?

I'd suggest you have maybe knocked a weight off one of the wheels.

I can't imagine this would be covered under warranty but there is one way to find out!

Yes like plates. 4 wheels stacked up vertically.

im sure the tires are just fine. I do the switch every season. Like clockwork. YOu may have fitted the rims slightly off. Check and recheck that first. The balance should be fine as long as you didn't knock off any wheel weights.
Do you have hub centric rings with your summer setup? That plays a factor as well.

Ok that's the right way to do it when mounted on wheels. Just tires, line them up standing on the tread.

One dumb thing to check, although you didn't specify what tires you are running. My winters I know have to be on the proper side of the car since the tread pattern is meant to roll one way only. Square setup but I've got two for the drivers and two for the passengers. Otherwise what you're describing could be a centering issue, wheel weight, or slight bend in a rim. I know towards the end of summer season I take it easy on my tires as its getting colder so don't drive too fast, last year I bent a rim and didnt notice until spring when I really got the car up to speed again.

Did you rotate your tires or did you put them on exactly as they were?

How could it be a centering issue since I use OEM wheels that are hub centric? It fits pretty snug on that flange. Tightened it to torque in the star pattern. Didn't rotate anything, just installed the wheels the same way as before (they were marked). Only thing I can think of is I stored the wheels like that (not my actual pic):

That is the correct way to do it. Maybe, big maybe, it may be a tiny bit better to not stack and lay all flat but I seriously doubt that has any real benefit. I've always stored my off season set like that. If you store vertically like standing up on tread that is bad. Unless just tires then it's the right way to do it.

Did you mark the wheels FL, FR, RL, RR? I bet one of your wheels is unbalanced, probably one of the rears. You won't feel that much vibration if a rear wheel is out of balance. Now that you are switching back them, you probably put one of the rears in the front and are now feeling the unbalance. Take it to your local shop and have them balance all 4 wheels.

Why is it bad to stand them up?

Right I stored my summer standing up wrapped by the tirerack storage bags in the heated basement.
No problem with vibration.

I would remount the rims to test again or take it for a balance.

The weight from the wheel can harm the tire, sitting in one position like that. I posted a long thread on proper storage somewhere this its titled PSA wheel storage or something like that if you want to search for it.

Agreed, vibration at highway speeds is usually the result of improperly balanced wheels. Definitely look into getting them balanced again as you likely lost a weight.

if it's at highway speeds, it's balancing. at lower speeds, it could be a left over centering ring from your winters (i had that happen). they're pretty small and relatively easy to miss if they get stuck to the hub.

Must have pitched a weight off. Did you wash them before putting them away or re installing?

One is either not balanced or you might need an alignment.

Not washed (no time)... but how could that affect anything?

I think cleaning them before long term storage may make a difference as potential salt and such on dirty wheels can eat away at the wheels and tires over a longer period of time. That would be a reason to wash some winters first before storing. But I don't think there is too big an impact if you are storing seasonally? Don't think it should affect balance though.

Could have unknowingly washed a weight off. I've done that. Check inside of wheel for mud buildup. That can throw balance off. Not sure how alignment can cause a vibration.

Wow they are dirty but maybe not THAT dirty. I don't go off-roading in the mud with my 335
