I am new to this forum. thank you for your help in advance. I have just bought a 540i xdrive but has not taken the delivery. The car has not had the above. can I ask the dealer to install it or Has this car missed the boat? please help

According to the folks from my local BMW service center, this particular option is likely a factory installed option. I have this option (ambience fragrance) in my 540i, and found this is a "nice to have" option, but not necessary due to individual cartridge can be expensive to replace on regular basis.

Yes, this would be correct. Cars with Ambient Air option have a "slot" installed in the glove box where the fragrance capsules (for the lack of better word) are installed. Looking at the setup in my 2019 540 it doesn't look like a dealer installed option, but a factory one.

It doesnt look terribly out of place. Much cleaner look than a fabreze or similar. The scent is typically good for about two months

I had a similar experience. After a while you don't even notice it.

Thanks Pete. Just ordered it. Comes with the Rain cartridge.

What scent do you guys like the best? Does the vent you out it in move up down and left right?

Mine came with Rain but it is time to change it out.
The unit does limit up and down movement in the vent but side to side is fine.

i wouldnt bother ordering it to be honest, all it does is take up "valuable" space within the glove box and even though i've had my whole system changed, i still cannot smell the fragrances that are plugged in - (they smell good when up close to the cartridge themselves, but you cant really smell it in the car).

Maybe it is because the Ioniser netralises the smell?

you're better off with the external vent air freshners to be honest, can keep the storage real estate.

in my MB they found kinks in the tube. not sure if its a similar setup for the BMW.

Both my ambient air cartridges are now empty, whilst searching for replacements I came across a ambient air system activator, I guess if you buy one of these you could just reactivate & refill your existing cartridges once they run out.

It's been about a month and I just replaced the rain scent cartridge with another. I guess my review is the scent is very subtle. I ended up moving the device up front to the front vent. It's does blend in nicely and looks like it was meant to be. I think subtle is a good thing. My issue with all other air fresheners are that they are too strong when new and then they just die out quickly. I do wish it were just a tad stronger though.
