I know there have been discussions about upgrading from i-drive 7 Lite to the full i-drive 7 which stated that it won't work because there isn't the hardware to allow for remote software updates. However, I'm interested in upgrading the driving assistant feature that is in the full i-drive 7. Surely that has to be a software issue (not hardware) as the 2020's should have the same cameras and sensors.

Has anyone tried this?

I have, and unfortunately it doesn't work. You just get a blank screen where you should see the driving assistant. I believe that there is still a hardware change required but I have no idea what it is.

Not sure what you mean by I-drive 7 lite,

I have a 530e 2019 with I-drive 7 and when coded for the newer Driver assistant (car is already equiped with the standard one) I don't have the visuals of the cars in their lanes in the instrument cluster. I do have the new graphics for the set speed and steering wheel indications to show the Assistant is set and all.
Not sure how to program the Lane Graphics as when I program in the new Graphics I lose the Distance setting arrows to car in front.
Also tested the vehicle with the new settings and all is working fine, changing lanes automatically when indicating etc. just not getting the lane Graphics.

Idrive 7 lite is the unofficial name given to idrive 7 in the pre LCI g30
Ie original g30 but with idrive 7 cluster (which is missing the remote software upgrade feature and possibly a few other minor things?)
The LCI introduced the “full fat” version of idrive 7 which added remote software upgrades

thanks for clearing that up, Figured some of it myself when I wanted to do the Nav Maps update but was directed by BMW to downloading it on stick.
Wondering what other parts it's missing compared to the LCi ones.

Would the missing lanes in the instrument cluster be a part of the Lite version of i-Drive 7 or just a software update to the latest version of the cluster?

Re maps. Even on the full idrive 7 full maps are downloaded onto a usb drive. These are released every quarter
You pay an annual subscription via you connected drive login for that

You miss out on OTA map updates potentially but these don’t seem very common anyway

I have the latest Maps on the ID7, Just updated to the latest 2024-3 live

When I code the newer version I do get every new symbol changed in the Yellow circle but all remains empty in the Red Circle.

The whole system works as advertised with the auto lane change when indicating and keeping distance to a full stop and drive off again from zero. It just doesn't show the lanes with the traffic. When coded the newer version I don't have any indication of the set distance to the car in front as that would normaly be in the yellow circle of the old system.

No This is a Generic Picture from the net. I don't have the stuff showing up in the red circle when all is coded. (don't have the temp gauge as well as mine is a PHEV.)
