ASD and Exhaust Flaps
Hello all,
I recently bought a CPO 2023 M550i and am confused about the connection between ASD and the exhaust flaps and was hoping to get some insight from the community here. I don’t really like the droning sound that plays over the speakers at highway speed and also don’t like that the engine noise is artificially pumped into the cabin. However, I’ve noticed that if I set ASD to reduced on the in-car settings, then the exhaust flaps don’t open, even in Sport mode. I bought an OBD reader and downloaded BimmerCode and turned ASD off in that but I swear there is still artificial noise being played over the speakers. And again, if I set ASD to reduced, the exhaust flaps never seem to open. My current fix is to leave ASD set on “depending on engine mode” so the flaps at least open when I’m in Sport, Sport Plus, or Sport Individual. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can completely get the fake noise off but still maintain the ability to get the flaps open on Sport mode? |

Hey, So the ASD has nothing to do with exhaust valves. It is strictly for cabin sound being pumped through the speakers.
Best thing to do is use Bimmercode to code the ASD sound off and use Bimmerlink to open and close the valves when you see fit. |

In addition to turning ASD off, you also have to remove the activation code in bimmercode to fully turn it off. As stated above, this also has no bearing on the exhaust valve opening and closing. I have ASD off and my valves work as normal.

Oh seems like I’m missing the activation code step to fully turn off ASD. So if I do that and then leave the car menu setting as “depends on driving mode”, the exhaust flaps should open as intended but not play any fake engine noise through the sound system?

I had to have ASD coded out with ISTA. I had it set to reduced and when the ASD was coded out I changed it to aggressive and the cold start was louder and the burbles are more pronounced.

Yes, turning off ASD does not change the exhaust valve function. The engine sound settings in idrive will still control the exhaust valves.

Thanks for the help everyone! I was able to get it working the way I wanted. I coded ASD off with Bimmercode and put the engine sound menu in the car on “depending on driving mode” so the flaps still open in Sport and closed in Comfort/Eco
