G31 electric tow hitch retrofit

Good evening, I've recently purchased a G31 that I'm looking to fit the OEM electric folding tow hitch to. I've got a second hand tow hitch and the retrofit kit 71602448621 but this didn't come with the instructions as I hoped. Does anyone have these they can share and any advice on the retrofit if anyone has experience with this?

The retrofit instructions have part number 01 29 2 448 622 but are not available on ISTA unfortunately.

Thanks David

Hi Alex, the list of parts you have is correct, although I didn't change the battery cable.

I thought I might not need the rear power distributer/ fuse box but it depends on what options are on the car.

The mechanical install is fairly straightforward but the wiring into the BDC and Canbus is awkward due to the location. It does take a long time fitting it all but I do have it working now.

For coding in Scotland I would recommend Bimmerman - https://fb.watch/lT-_u8oWSE/

Hi David, I am in the same predicament as you were. I ordered the electrical parts kit 71 60 2 448 621 from LLL parts and although some sites online indicated it comes with instructions, this one did not. How did you go about fitting your electricals in the end? Thanks in advance!

Well underway with the retrofit. But my pin locations at BDC are occupied.
Plug A258*5B, pin 32. Belive is Activation brake light. Is occupied
Plug A258*3B, pin 37. Is Actuation turnsignal light right. Is occupied.

Can any one confirm. Is there alternative locations?

Hi,
I’ve been fitting an electrical pivoting tow hitch to my G31, which is nearly completed. I’ve watched the video which linked on the original post, which has been a great help however I’m struggling with the connections to BDC A258 mainly around the business interface /bus interface
Has anyone got any wiring instructions specific to the g30/31 or can tell me how to wire it please.

Recently picked up a 2021 G31 and looking to retrofit a tow hitch. Starting to pull together parts list of everything, spoke with local dealer for a quote to get one fitted which provided the following part numbers. Would anyone be able to confirm if I’m missing anything or if there are alternative part numbers on the market that would work as I’m seeing a number of different tow bars/control modules on eBay

B71.60.6.888.468 - trailer hitch
B63.11.5.A05.6C9 - control unit
B61.14.8.713.126 - power distribution
B71.60.2.448.621 - retrofit kit

UPDATE: I found the location. On the PHEV models it is underneath the loading sill cover.

I am retrofitting the original electric folding towing hitch to a 2021 530e Touring (G31). I have looked through videos and instruction for G30 but the layout according to the instructions around the aft fuse box is not consistent with my G31.

Does anyone know where the trailer module (‘AAG control unit’) should be fitted? Can’t find a control unit holder which seem to be available on some individuals.

See picture of my layout.

Best regards,

It is all you need. You are supposed to change an underfloor + cable which is not included. I did not do this step.
Also 6-cyl models include a step to replace fan.

I used this instruction:

The trim that comes with the retrofit kit, there doesn’t look to be enough space as shown in the instructions to mount it on the right hand side behind the light

I’ve found a part number - 51 47 7471780 for the trim
