eSys cheatsheets to BimmerCode names
Hello dear community,
I've been lurking around here for about half a year now and, after learning a lot about my G31, I finally came onto something that I cannot figure out without specifically asking about it. It's not necessarily G30 specific, so please bear with me. For convenience I went on and bought BimmerCode. But more recently I noticed that eSys has more cheat files than BimmerCode. Now the question: is there a way to easily figure out any correspondence between the format in the xml files and BimmerCode's parameter names? I see that there are some cheats that contain the names in the comments, but otherwise... I don't know what to make of the logic of function start/end, mask, etc. Any suggestion is highly appreciated! Thanks! |

lofty I can't answer your question but for the benefit of others who are lurking here, I want to applaud your plan to use Bimmercode rather than Esys to do this coding. Unless something has recently come available, it's been several years now since the Esys map has been updated for the G30. Coding with an outdated map could result in a catastrophic failure requiring a trip to your dealership.
I strongly recommend using commercial tools like Bimmercode, ProTool, and BimmerUtility for coding your G30 since they appear to be keeping their maps up to date with new G30 software versions. |

Well, to be honest, as I have some professional experience with coding and a "understand first and don't do things blindly" mentality, I prefer to dissect things, take them one by one and pay extra attention to what I am doing.
I am not sure if BimmerCode was the best choice for a BMW coding utility. It was at least the cheapest for me. From what I see until now, it is quite comprehensive and, except for a few advanced features (backup management comes to mind) I don't have much to complain about. To answer my own original question, I started looking for cheat sheets for different (mostly older) models and I'll be carefully trying whatever I find in there. |

I would definitely spend some time reading through this forum, since virtually all of the popular coding options are presented and discussed here. To be honest I don't think I've ever relied on an Esys cheat to learn how to code something.
