Rear Window Distortion After Tinting – Llumar IRX on G30

Hi all,

I recently had the rear window of my G30 tinted with Llumar IRX ceramic film, and while the heat rejection is great, I’m struggling with a serious downside:

The defroster lines are now heavily pronounced, and there’s noticeable distortion at night, especially when looking through rearview mirrors. It’s distracting and honestly driving me crazy.

I wasn’t aware of this effect before tinting, and when I asked, I was told this is “normal” and has nothing to do with the film itself. But I’ve also read that ceramic films like IRX are thicker, which may exaggerate the optical distortion, especially over the defrost lines.

Removing the tint isn’t really an option for me right now, so I’m wondering:
  • Has anyone experienced something similar with IRX or other ceramic films?
  • Does the effect reduce over time?
  • I’ve been advised not to use the defroster for a while — has that helped for anyone?
  • Would a metalized film or even dye-based film reduce this issue in the future?

Appreciate any insight or suggestions — this is really making me second-guess what was otherwise a high-end choice.

Thanks!
