Rear door speakers

Was just wondering if anyone has retrofitted rear door speakers. My car has the HiFi system in it, and I’m somewhat interested in seeing how hard it would be to add the rear door speakers to it. Thank you

Besides the obvious, you'll need either new door panels or cut the holes yourself.

Is the wiring already there? Or Id have to run a new harness to the doors?

and you would most likely need a new amp. The hifi is barely capable of powering the few speakers it has already. In addition, on my B&W system, the sound is front biased, so if this is the case with hifi - it may not we worth it.

Yeah it definitely feels like sounds is coming from the front area, I was hoping that adding some speakers in the back would help with that

I would focus on a new amp first and go from there. See how it sounds with a more powerful amp. Check out the Alpha One amp.

Adding more speakers with the factory hifi amp will just make all the speakers weaker.

There are speakers in the rear deck. Use the fader to put more sound rearward. I have the sound stage "centered" at about the left thigh of the right, rear passenger.

With the B&W system and I suspect the same for HK, the power (key word) is about 75% front biased from the amp and 25% rear. The rear speakers on the shelf are almost elevator background music. Fading to the rear does nothing but make the front less "powerful" and adds minimal increase in volume to the rears, for my system anyway. I have faded 100% to the rear and it sounds weak, for lack of better words. Has to be by design. Maybe it's the center channel impact, which I don't think you get with HK.

In the "old days", all I would have back there and in the car were two 6 X 9 Jenson's, lol.

I just got done installing the Match UP7BMW amp and left the speakers alone! The amp in itself brought up the sound stage and as many have said, the stock speakers are fairly decent now that their powered correctly. Tuning the amp is key and I'm extremely happy with the way it is now. Heck, even Sirius sound excellent.

Yea, those Jensens were awesome paired with my Audiovox amp when I had my 75 Malibu Classic

Ha! Grand Prix here and also had an Audiovox HU, but I also had a “power booster/EQ” that the line outs from the head unit went though and then to the Jensons for something like 100 more watts. I took that set up with me through three cars.

Funny how things change. 100% audio coming from the rear in nothing but stereo, but man did it go loud back there. Now we have 5:1, DSP, lighted speaker grills, etc.

Looked like this and I mounted it under the glovebox.

LOVE IT! Yep, the days of simplicity were golden!!!!! Never thought I'd have a DSP Amp and become a Soundstage Engineer, just for a car!
