Today I received the 2nd part for the next phase of performance modifications for my car... it came in the form of the Newer Cast version of the Pure 800 Turbo.
My current setup is: Stage 2+ BM3 93 oct map XHP Stage 3 VRSF 4.5" Catted Downpipe TU HPFP TU Spark Plugs MST Intake Masata Chargepipe Remus Catback Exhaust As some of you know the Pure 800 has been a popular turbo in many B58 cars, but this newer Cast one is even better with more gains. It has a cast compressor housing along with a cast exhaust manifold, essentially built from the ground up. This turbo also spools up quicker than the older Pure 800. Another positive, there's no core charge with this so you get to keep your stock turbo too. I bought the turbo directly from Pure Turbos EU. Very happy with the whole buying experience and service from them. I ordered it Wednesday evening and it arrived Friday morning. Few more bits to get before everything gets done. I already have a 5" Osprey Performance Catted Downpipe waiting to go on. I'm also going to upgrade my coolant lines and coolant tanks to the newer versions that BMW released for the G30. Looking forward to getting all these bits on and seeing where the build goes.

Please document as much as you can I’m very interested. Pics of the new vs old coolant stuff would be great, I’m not sure what is on my 2019 540. I plan on doing something similar with this car a little down the line but I already have a catless downpipe and stage 2 MHD tune. Will this be your daily driver?
Good luck with the modding. |

Few more parts have arrived that will be going on same time as the turbo install.
Parts to be Installed:
Decided to swap the coolant tanks and pipes for the newer versions to try and combat one of the G30's common issues.

As for the TU plugs, they were recommended to me for tuned B58 engines. The BMW B58TU spark plugs are the same as NGK 94201(SILZKGR8B8S) spark plugs. I did read that they help with knock resistance and misfire reduction...it's something I've tried and not seen any negatives, so went with a new fresh set. My last set of plugs were fitted at 45,000 miles. The car is at around 56,000 miles now.

I'm keen to do this update as well on the cooling side to prevent what sounds like a weak point in the older tanks. Odd thing I noticed with the Expansion tank is that RealOEM seems to list item 17139884859 as the current version. They state it Supersedes: 17139487210(02/01/2018 — 05/29/2019), 17138742975(07/24/2017 — 03/08/2018), 17138610656(07/01/2015 — 01/18/2018) The part 17139846642 you used wasn't even listed on there. ![]()

17139884859 shows an 'up to' date of 08/2020 I don't think 17139846642 is on RealOEM as it's a part that comes on the LCI cars (which are not on RealOEM as you know) but the part is still backward compatible with pre-LCI cars.

![]() Good to know the part numbers. I'm going to try and order through my local and do the upgrade as part of next service. Keep us posted in terms of the mighty Pure800 upgrade. The car must be brutal with that on board.

I'm super curious with the power on the 5" catted. I know a supra thread out there somewhere has a guy with an upgraded turbo wondering why he didn't make nearly enough power as he expected, and when he went from catted to catless it was a massive difference, not the usual small numbers people quote for a stock turbo car. I've been very skeptical of all the claims that catted vs catless is a small difference on B58, I'm not sure how that could be the case for just this platform specifically.
I guess we can always compare your car to a catless one with similar mods, but the tune and tuner and so many other factors will come into play. I'm hoping it makes great power because my catless smells so bad right now I'm beginning to think I actually have a leak somewhere in the system. |

Stage 3 ✅️... after posting and talking about it for a while 😄 the car is now stage 3.
New parts installed: Pure 800 Cast Hybrid Turbo Pure Turbos Silicone Turbo Inlet Elbow Osprey 5" Catted Downpipe NGK 94201 Spark Plugs Other parts/work carried out: BMW v2 Coolant Tank BMW v2 Charge Cooler Tank BMW Coolant Pipes BMW Turbo fitting kit (gaskets and bolts) Oil Change Coolant Refresh (with system bleed on both circuits) The work was carried out by my friend who is a BMW Specialist (RS Automotive). He previously did the stage 2+ setup on my car and has continued to maintain the car too, when it comes to any servicing work. While I was having the 'Turbo' work done, I saw it as a good opportunity to have the coolant tanks and pipes changed out. Glad I did - as soon as the pipe from radiator to the coolant tank was removed, it broke in 2. You can tell the difeerence between the newer tanks from the older ones as the newer ones don't have the bleed screw/valve on the top near the cap. The car is now running a custom tune on pump fuel (99Ron) from Velocity Tuning via Bootmod3. I opted to have the car road tuned rather than dyno tuned which did take a little longer (mostly due to the lovely weather we recently had in the UK 🌧🌧🌧 ![]() There is headroom for more so will look at additional fuelling options in the future... as well as a new brake setup as I'm sure that will need doing! My 540ix has been transformed from great car to an even better one. Power delivery is very smooth and the car just wants to keep pulling more and more. Stage 2+ wasn't slow by any means but it is now a whole lot faster and you can feel it for sure. Even when pushing on you can feel how much better the car is in terms of handling - that's down to the F90 M5 Sway bars and front and rear reinforcements. Very enjoyable to drive, more so than before. I've not done any accounting numbers yet 😆... (Dyno or Dragy Times) but will do, hopefully at some point So as it stands, the current engine build is: Pure 800 Cast Hybrid Turbo Pure Turbos Silicone Turbo Inlet Elbow BM3 Custom Tune from Velocity Tuning XHP Stage 3 TCU Tune Osprey 5" Catted Downpipe Osprey V2 Heat Shield B58TU HPFP MST Intake Induction Kit Masata Charge Pipe Remus Catback Exhaust System NGK 94201 Spark Plugs

Please keep documenting everything. This is a sick 540!
Those bars in the engine bay idk what to call them, strut braces I guess. Did you notice any difference after installing those? They LOOK really nice in that engine bay. Please get some dyno numbers! Great work keep it up. |

If I were to do it again, I would fit the Hardrace brace first and then work my way through the F90 braces and reinforcements and try to see what difference each part adds. I like to think that with all these parts added, they are now all contributing to the way the car handles and drives. I set out with the aim of improving the handling and drivability of the car and I think I've been able to do so, to a certian level. I'm not seeing or feeling any negative or worse impact of all this. Steering is more sharper and tight and like I mentioned before, you can actually feel the increased rigidity when going round bends. There is a stiffer feel and the floaty like feeling has almost gone. Even my wife noticed that there was a change for the better and she only drives the car a few times a month. I've also had fast road geo alignment done on the car which helps with all this too. Thank you! I haven't got the car on a dyno, something I need to get round to sorting.

Hey, was there something in particular you wanted an update on?
The car is running great and no issues since having the Turbo and other bits fitted. Since then, I have installed a Ross Racing PCV Breather Kit (v2) and a RR Oil Catch Can. This was just as a preventative measure to try and bulletproof one of the B58 engine flaws. Car is still running on 99RON Pump Fuel at the moment. I have started to look at additional fuelling options to maybe run upto E30. Just looking and researching what route to potentially take with it... The way the car is now, it's not needed - but it's more of a nice to have ![]()
