M550i + Remus catback + BMC filters + SST controller + Racechip

Woooooooweee! This car went from a wolf in sheep’s clothing to an absolute monster. It’s incredible to finally hear this N63TU3 breathe! I don’t know why I underestimated the voice this thing would have but it ROARS. Coming from a tuned 6M F80 comp a month ago, I can’t decide what my favorite part of the difference is in the M550 but I am thoroughly enjoying it and not yet missing the 6M or those uncomfortable seats in the M3. I kind of miss the feeling of being more connected to the road, but I think the comfort and space makes up for it.

The SST controller is great if anyone is on the fence. It’s really nice to have full control over the exhaust valves. It’s fun to hear the engine clear its throat on a cold start with the valves fully open. And convenient to close them if I have to start the car in the garage while the kids are still sleeping. It seemed a little expensive when I bought it but no regrets there.

I had a JB4 on my F80 but went Racechip this time for the simplicity and knowing I wouldn’t be modding any further than this. It was a 30 min install and definitely made a significant enough difference in power. The app kinda sucks…the connection is finicky but I don’t really care. I just set it to map 7 since I have 94 octane down the street from my house and will leave it there.

The BMC filters are the first I’ve used them but seem to be very high quality. I took out the charcoal filter and foam pad in the airbox and it seemed to add just enough intake sound. It looks like the stock intake system does a pretty good job of bringing colder air into the engine, I’m not going to mess with that.

I agree with your assessment! Virtually the same set-up I have except I have the Dinan mid-pipe and no aftermarket muffler. I had a tuned F80 comp a couple cars ago, too.

Going to get diff and transfer case fluid change in a couple weeks then flash xHP stage 2.
