LCI Mirror Tap for Radar Detector Not Working
Hello everyone,
I’ve used some of the fantastic guides on this forum to try to install a mirror tap to power my Uniden R8w radar detector in my 2023 M550i but just cannot seem to get the detector any power, despite trying multiple different pins for power. Has anyone successfully gotten a mirror tap on an LCI to work? The reason I specify is that the threads and videos I’ve seen with successful mirror taps on here all seem to be pre-LCI G30s. Does anyone know if there’s a difference post LCI and the mirror harness isn’t capable of providing the 12v needed to power a radar detector? I’ve attached photos of the mirror tap and my attempt at installing it. Can anyone see if I’m doing something wrong? Are my pins the wrong size? Tapping into the wrong ports? |

I think so….the taps are snug and pushed in as far as they can go. Can you tell by looking at the picture I attached?? (The black ground tap is pulled back a ways in that photo — happened as I was maneuvering the whole thing to get a clear picture taken in the dark lol)

Looks like it's in. I tried wiring my Valentine V1 there and couldn't get it to work. I ended up running the wire across the front of the headliner, down the A pillar and into the front fuse box using an add-a-fuse.

I think I might have to go that route as well. Would you mind sharing how you did the fuse tap?
I found this on the forum — is this what you did? |

The hot wire looks fully seated, not so sure about that GRD. It may be snug against the plastic, but not touching the crimp of the actual GRD circuit. No reason it would not work otherwise. You could test by running a GRD clip to the black terminal of the mirror tap.

I have an R8 in my 2021 and work fine, I used the thin prongs to insert since it's a tight fit. Make sure you push them in all the way. I used a video of a newer X5 on YT I believe.

I'm pretty certain that I used the thinnest prongs too. And still had issues getting reliable connectivity.
