Had to go with a Route 66 Main St as that's all that was available for my 18' M550xi with 60k miles. After reading everything I could get my hands on and calling Route 66 direct. I feel that the Main Street is fairly comprehensive. BUT....curious as to what others have experienced or opinions. Wish I could've gotten the Easy Street and certainly would've paid up for it but I got what was available. Miles and time (36x36) are fine for me as I just don't drive that much and likely won't be keeping this car for more than 2-3 more years. But wondering what I could get stuck with.

Turbos, cooling system, front control arms, transmission, AWD transfer cases, engine, EEP, I know some stuff isn't covered but just curios as to others experience with the Main Street.

I called Alco Federal Credit Union in Rochester, NY and they said you can only buy a Route 66 from them if your car loan is through them AND you bought the extended at the time of loan issuance. I’ve not heard this from anyone in these forums. It’s always mentioned as a product you can buy anytime with no such requirements.

Every credit union is different. I bought my Route 66 with no requirements. Just paid $3300ish and I’m covered.

The best person to ask is your BMW service advisor, if you have one with a good working relationship. They deal with all the warranty companies and can tell you which ones are a problem getting things covered and which ones are good, and what the Gotcha's are. A lot of them don't cover hoses, fluids, gaskets, etc. So while your turbo gets replaced, all the hoses, vacuum lines, gaskets (big one), are not and you still end up with a $1200 job.

I’m so frustrated with this Route 66 eligibility. So far I’ve called Alco and First Source Federal Credit Unions. Per Route 66, these are the credit unions closest to where I live. Both require you to have your vehicle loan through them (I don’t), and First Source only serves certain counties (not mine). Does anyone know of a Route 66 issuer anywhere in the country that will sell a policy without client or residence requirements?

Since they only sell via Credit Unions there will always be a requirement to both satisfy eligibility criteria and establish membership. Some require loans with them and some just require $5 in a savings account.

Others can chime in on which ones. I looked into Route 66 via PenFed, but didn’t pick it up as at the time they excluded PHEVs.

Lots of forum members have them though so someone will chime in soon.

It took about 8 weeks total but she helped me purchase for my car. I had to open a checking account but there was no cost involved in that part.
