This is on my X5 but I figured some of my hommies here might have some experience.

Every time I get in the car the HUD is back to the mid point on the slider, which is low for me.

I’m pretty sure HUD height and centering isn’t tied to the seat memory, but I saved it for the hell of it. I’ll know more today.

no,
The only thing I would ask though is have you set up a Connect drive profile.
I was advised to do this as soon as you get the car. (Ensures the settings are saved with BMW "up in the cloud")
I'm also assuming you are using the same key?
Don't believe its associated with the seat memory but more the key/ your profile.

You’re probably onto something. I have not set up a profile yet, but I do always set and drive with the same FOB.

Anyone have a "setup profiles for dummies" procedure? I've read the OM but it makes no sense to me. The iDrive option is just import/export, but where do I save the settings? I generally, like 99.999% of the time use CA to lock & unlock the cars.

I've been driving a BMW for 7 years now and don't really understand the whole profiles thing.

I’m right there with you. I need to borrow a 12 yr old to set things for me.

If you set the profile to align with the key it will align to the correct key with comfort access accounted for. My limited understanding of the import / export options are that they are geared towards allowing you to move settings between different cars. In iDrive 7 BMW removed the import and export options and it is automatically done via the “cloud” if you sign into your BMW account.

Profiles are really powerful and it is a great feature.

I'm with you. On my M550, which is ID6, I setup the profile a while ago as "Joe". I am also the only driver and I use the same FOB every time. This ID7 X5 seems more complicated.

You would think you could just do everything from the app, that would be my preferred MO. The other thing about the X5/ID7, Apple CarPlay and which phone it connects to is a pain in the ass. Both me and my GF drive the X5. Her more than me. I had to delete my phone from the system to stop it from trying to connect, it would do this even when I wasn't with her.

Idrive has never been intuitive, but I have gotten used to it. Things aren't where you would think they should be. For the company that invented a user interface with the car and a controller, they certainly do things backwards.

The owner's manual has become a useless piece of shit. There was a day when I took delivery on a BMW and I would read the manual from front to back. It used to differentiate between models within the model and identify options. Now its just a generic waste of paper.

Since there's an owners manual built into iDrive it's the one that is specific to your VIN/build/options/etc...whereas the paperback version is universal.

Examples:

Joe, we have the same with the X7. You can actually set a priority order for the phone it tries to connect to.

I do have my own profile linked to the second key and it’s pretty helpful. I believe it’s linked to the same one I set up for my 540 but I can’t remember for sure.

I guess I’ll be figuring all this out again next week (hopefully).

Thanks. I admittedly haven’t spent enough time with this car hunting around. That makes sense but I could have sworn I did set the priority order. I’ll check again.

We are going to switch cars back this week, so I’ll get to drive it as my primary daily for a few months. I’ll definitely dig in because I’m a guy. She could care less about half the things the car does. My phone connecting over here was just a headache for me listening to her so it’s was easier to delete it. I’ve yet to drive the car without her in it with her phone in it.

It drives me crazy when my wife doesn’t lock the car when she gets out. It’s safe in the garage. But the computer doesn’t shut all the way off, unless it’s locked. I set the stereo to turn off, but the whole unit doesn’t shut off. So I will be walking around with my ear buds in, doing chores, and then I stop hearing anything. Look down, podcast still playing. But no sound. It’s because it’s auto connected to damn X7 in the garage!! Haha

I wanted to set the car to lock on walk away but she didn’t want any part of it either. Something about being able to run to the garage to grab something out of the car without grabbing the keys. This happens almost never.

Glad I’m not the only one fighting illogical battles.

Although… she won’t admit it but I’ve turned into a closet car nerd. The other day she said “damn look at the price on this GLS, that’s a good deal!”

I said “maybe, I have no clue what the market is for them, but why are you looking at the Smith Imports site??”

She gave me some BS excuse about still being on the email list and changed the subject. Haha.

She admitted she likes driving the 540. Said she might like that when she’s not hauling kids anymore. But she still won’t admit she thinks the M550 is cool. Just out of spite. I think when she sees it, hears it, and rides in it then she won’t be able to lie about it.

Forgot about this post. Meant to follow up. I did memorize my seat setting right after I adjusted the HUD height the last time in and it stuck. MKes perfect sense, seat position and HUD height being tied together.
