Rear differential lock warning
My 2022 M550 (5000 miles in) just had a spat last night, turned it on and a bunch of check control messages came on “chassis stabilization warning” and “rear differential locked”. It said driving performance was reduced but I could keep driving… to go to a service center. The Auto Hold parking wouldn’t turn on and “parking assistance was reduced”. I turned it off for an hour turned it back on and the check control messages went away but the check engine light remains on.
This morning everything seems fine except the check engine light remains on. I guess I should go see a service center but has this happened to anyone else? |

Well 1.5 years late here but it just happened to me. I got a bunch of random errors at the same time when I turned my car on. What ended up happening with yours if youre still on here haha

A dealer check is always a good idea, but sometimes--not always--a very low or defective battery can cause weird malfunction messages. When I sold BMWs between 2007 and 2014, in the winter when cars were not driven much we would often get the message "Service AWD" and others when the battery got low. A recharge usually cleared things up and as I recall, a reset of the failure codes. Hope you get it figured out. --Bob

So this just happened to me today. 2023 BMW 550i 22k miles. Started the car and got the same set of errors. What was the resolution to this? I am still under warantee but hopefully this is not going to be a persistent issue down the road.
