Driving with DSC off

When I floor my car with DSC off, i don’t get any wheel spin at all. I tried to get the wheels spinning from a stop light (nobody around) with DSC off but my car (21 540i) doesn’t seem to get loose at all. Am I doing something wrong, long press the traction button and the dsc off message shows up. I’m just trying to get the rear loose. I’m running michelin primacy 3 summer run flats if that’s any useful info

Thought about that too.

sadatkhan - best test you can do to see if DSC is really off is try to spin them on wet pavement/ice/snow, etc. Even on wet pavement, they should spin up.

My E39 with 294 HP with DSC off could spin the rear wheels easily. Apples to Oranges, I know, but I could spin snow tires on that sucker.

Even with DSC completely off there are nannies in place. This isn't anything new for BMW.

If this manlet in a 530e can do it, then so can you. Believe!

It does spin a ton on wet roads with DSC off, and when it’s on it just cuts power so it seems to be working right. I’m thinking these tires just don’t like to spin maybe in the dry. When i tried the outside temp was around 50f and tires at 75f

I know one other guy with a 540i and he says he spins from a stop. I think maybe it’s just my tires - my friend is on all seasons

Definitely sounds like it’s the tires then and not the “well known nannies”. 😂😂😂That one gave me a good laugh.

it' not easy to do from standstill because the engine does not give full power when you press the gas pedal

when you press the gas pedal from standstill it seems to go like this

- 1. engine: no i won't give you power
- 2. engine: ok ok i give some power
- 3. engine at 3500rpm: ok here you go, max power

that process takes a few seconds and your car has already crawled forward at you've hit the legal speed limit of the road

the best way to break traction is
- put in DTC (you do not want to DSC off unless you know what you're doing, there are ZERO nannies when you are in DSC off)
****
- turn the steering wheel a lot in one direction (this locks the rear M diff if you have one, if not it is still best to do this)
- you don't have to do this if you don't want to do donuts
****
- hold the brake while you press the gas pedal, this will build boost and go straight to number 3 on the engine behaviour
- what you are doing is putting a lot of brake on the front wheels. this stops the car moving while the rear wheels build torque. there is also some brake pressure on the rear wheels but it is much less, and the torque build is enough to let the tires smoking like no tomorrow.
- this is enough to do a burnout, but needs to be DSC off
(once you practice this and figure out how much steering and/or how much brake boost, it's time to put in DSC off and hope you don't crash)

be careful, don't do it around people or cars, or you risk other people's life and property.

the only life and property you want to risk is your own. not other people's.

With DSC off, the only "nanny" that's in place should be automatic differential braking (which would help, not hurt). Even in DTC it will not cut power unless you get too sideways. Just a heavy car with good tires. I'm sure you could shred up some all-seasons from a dig.

Your tires were probably too good, I get wheel spins with OEM runflat even with DSC on when it gets cold here in Seattle. Tires have 7/32 left.

interesting. that's how it was with my M340i but with the 550 DTC doesn't let me wheelspin.
